Why You Should Consider Speed Dating
I would not consider myself a speed dating expert by any means, but I do know the basics pretty well.
After all, I have had ample time to get exposed to it. I have gone on many different speed dates myself and, as part of a local online dating service, have recently started organizing my own events.A lot of people, used to the bar scene, are pretty intimidated by trying anything so unconventional. They do not have the first idea of how does speed dating work, and worry that it will not be comfortable.
I do understand their concerns. In some ways, speed dating can be a bit intimidating the very first time that you try it. When you are in a bar checking someone out, the atmosphere is casual and relaxed.

You can go up and try to start a conversation, talk for as long as both of you want to, and casually drift away if things start to go wrong. Speed dating, on the other hand, is regimented. At a certain point, you switch partners, have a quick conversation, and move on to the next person.
Although this can be stressful, it does have its rewards. The great thing about speed dating is that it gives you the chance to meet a lot of people in a very short period of time. You get to ask each other questions, break the ice quickly, and cover all the basics in just a few minutes.
If a conversation is awkward, at least it won't last long. And between 30 or so different people, you are likely to meet someone who you click with.
Speed dates vary a little bit from place to place. Some speed dating services keep things pretty minimal. At the place I used to go to, you would simply go into a room where there were about 30 small tables set up.
At each one, there would be a different woman. Every man would sit down at a different table. Whenever a bell went off, the men would get up and each move to the next table over.
When it was all over, each person would turn in a list of who they liked. Wherever people clicked, they would get each other's contact info. This is the basic format everywhere, but in some places they jazz it up a bit.
They might give you conversation starters, set a romantic mood, or have refreshments. Nonetheless, it is about the same.
